Application of Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the study of nano particles whose size ranges from 100 nanometers and smaller. This subject deals with various fields and finds active application in medicine, electronics and energy production. The knowledge of nanotechnology is also applied in polymers sector in few cases and has active role in all the fields mentioned here. But still its application has been a subject of debate as they are considered to spread toxicity though the nano materials present.

Nanotechnology uses the application of nanowires, nanotubes, nanobubble, nanochips and many more in various fields and has been accepted with applause as the products are durable and cheap and very useful too. According to the report of Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies as on August, 2008 there are over 8000 manufacturer identified nanotech products and that are available in the open market for the public. There are even more nanotech products that are kept in various research facilities and under development.

But development of Nanotech product is very rapid. About 3 to 4 products are launched every week. Hence, exerts are required for proper research, development and production of user friendly nanomaterials. Presently nanotechnology finds its application in gecko tape; silver in food packaging, clothing, disinfectants and household appliances; zinc oxide in sunscreens and cosmetics, surface coatings, paints and outdoor furniture varnishes; and cerium oxide as a fuel catalyst. Further applications which require actual exploitation of nanoscale substances await further research are under research and will soon be launched in public.

But application of nanotechnology should be done carefully as it possess a great threat to the environment is it is exploited ruthlessly and uncontrolled.
