Comparison of Doctors from MBBS and PhD

MBBS stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. It is a graduation degree whereas PhD is a Doctorate degree.

The term Doctor is used for both MBBS and PhD degree holders. But the meaning of the term differs a lot in both the cases. The term Doctor that is associated with a MBBS degree holder specifies the social doctor i.e. the one who is engaged in the work of curing sickness. While the term Doctor associated with PhD degree holder candidate specifies someone with a great knowledge on a particular subject.

MBBS is a regular graduation course. It is of five and a half year duration which includes an internship period of one year duration. It is the science of curing sick people. The candidate undertaking a MBBS course is taught the various methods of curing diseases and the biological phenomenon of the body.

On the contrary, PhD is a doctorate level course which can be done only by a candidate who has completed the post graduation studies. Even a MBBS candidate who has done M.D may also go for a PhD study. Thus, PhD is a very specialized course. It is in fact, the highest qualification that a candidate can pursue in a particular field of study.

Moreover, the MBBS course is related to the medical profession only where as the PhD course is not discipline based. One can pursue a PhD degree is virtually each and every subject. It may be medicine, science, arts, or even commerce.

Thus, both MBBS and PhD degree have diverse meanings and in the similar way the term Doctor used for MBBS and that used for PhDs has far difference in meaning.
