How To Become Engineer

Engineering is the dreams of uncountable number of students and many do accomplish their dreams courtesy the huge number of engineering colleges in our country. The demand of the profession is such that new engineering colleges are getting filled pretty rapidly. Moreover the admissions are getting tougher and tougher each year. To become an engineer, a student can take any of the following paths


The following study routes are open to aspirants to the engineering profession.
• Graduate degree programmes BE/B.Tech (4 years)/intergrated degree programmes M.Tech (5 years)
• Diploma courses followed by accredition exams of professional bodies or part time engineering degree programmes from technology institutions/departments.
• After B.Tech, post graduate courses with scholarships are open to students who have qualified in the graduate aptitude test in engineering or national eligibility test.

Entry to undergraduate courses

• Joint entrance examination conducted by the IITs
• State level engineering entrance exams (SLEEE) conducted by the states for admission into institutions falling within their state against the seats reserved for the students from within the state.
• All India engineering entrance examinations will be conducted by CBSE for engineering, architecture and pharmacy courses.
• There are some private universities which also conduct their own admission examinations

After diploma

For diploma holders in different branches of engineering the institute of engineers/ institute of telecommunication engineers/ institute of aeronautical engineers conducts and examination which is considered equivalent to the engineering degree courses. The students can also take admission into the engineering colleges in the second year after completing their diploma as lateral entry students.

Entry to post graduate courses

The candidates with bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, pharmacy, architecture can apply for the examinations. Post graduates can pursue research in centres such as BARC, ISRO etc. many graduate/ PG engineers opt for government service. Engineering services exam is conducted every year by UPSC for selecting candidate to serve with government departments and PSUs.
