XAT is an annual entrance exam conducted by XLRI School of Business and Human Resources for admission to Post Graduate Management Programs of XLRI, Jamshedpur and 60 other management institutes. XLRI Jamshedpur was founded in 1949 and since then is considered to be amongst the most prestigious institutes for management education in India. Therefore every year a large number of management aspirants apply for XAT to get admission in XLRI or other good institutes where XAT is applicable.
Earlier XAT was only for admission to XLRI, Jamshedpur but with time many other management institutes started using XAT scores for shortlisting candidates for admission to their management programs. After CAT and MAT, XAT is the most popular entrance exam for management aspirants. XAT differs from other management entrance examinations as candidates are expected to write an essay also on a given topic besides the usual objective type questions. The essay is only considered for admission to XLRI, Jamshedpur.
Availability of forms for XLRI XAT 2010:
XAT bulletin is expected to be available in first week of September at selected Axis Bank branches on payment of cash. After that the candidates have to log in XAT website and choose the ‘Paid at Axis Bank mode of payment’ to fill the online form. Then the candidates have to download the PP form and mail it to XAT Office. Candidates can also obtain the XAT bulletin from XLRI by making a demand draft and first registering through XAT website by choosing Demand Draft option. After mailing the printed form to XAT office the candidates will receive the XAT bulletin from XAT office. Candidates also have to choose the institutes where they want to apply for through XAT.

Date of Entrance Examination: 1st week of January, 2009
Date of availability of XAT bulletin and online registeration: 1st week of September-End November, 2009
Last date for receipt of XAT PP form: First week of December, 2009
Eligibility criteria for XLRI XAT:
To be eligible for appearing in XAT a candidate should have either completed the gradudation or should be in the final year of grauduation for provisonal admission.

Business Management Program: Two year full time
Personal Management and Industrial Relations Program: Two year full time
General Management Program: One year full time program for working executives
Executive PG Program: Three year part time program for working executives
Pattern of Examination:
XAT exam is of 140 minutes and consists of 200 objective type questions and an essay of 250-300 words. Objective questions are asked ffrom the following sections:
English-80 questions
Reasoning and Quantitative Ability-60 questions
General Awareness-60 questions
