JMET 2009-2010

Joint Management Entrance Test(JMET) is an entrance exam for admission in Post Graduation management courses in IITs for students having an engineering degree or Master’s degree in science. Though IITs are primarily premium engineering institutes but still due to brand name and credibility the management courses in IITs are also considered to be prestigious. Since the management courses in IITs are only for engineering and Post Graduate Science students the management courses are specially designed for them.

Presently management courses in IITs are available in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee. In addition NIT calicut also uses JMET scores for admission in its MBA programme. All these institutes use JMET scores for shortlisting candidates who can apply for their management programmes. Final selection depends on each institute’s own criteria which includes Personal Interview, Group Discussion, 10th, 12th and Graduation marks, Work experience etc.

Online Application for JMET 2009-2010

Application for JMET is through an online procedure. A candidate has to apply online through IIT website where he/she is required to fill various details. After that the candidate has to take the printout of that form and send it to IIT Kanpur(organising institute) along with a demand draft and other documents.

Last Date for online application:2nd week of October, 2009

Last Date for receipt of printed form:3rd week of October, 2009

Announcement of results:First week of January, 2010

Eligibility Criteria for JMET Exam:

In order to be eligible for admission through JMET a candidate should have an engineering degree or a Master’s degree in Science with atleast 60% aggregate though there is a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidates. Candiates in their final year can also apply for provisional admission subject to the completion of their qualifying degree.

Pattern of examination:

JMET exam is of 3 hours duration having 120 objective questions in all from Verbal Communication, Logical reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. A candiate is required to perform well in all the four sections to be considered for admission. There is a negative marking of 1/4th marks in case of an incorrect answer
