GATE 2010

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) is an entrance examination for admission to Post Graduation/PhD courses in Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy across IITs and many other institutes in India. GATE is conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Technology(IITs) and Indian Institute of Sciences. IITs are considered to be the most prestigious institutions in India for technical education therefore students apply in large numbers for GATE to do Post Graduation Courses from IIT.

University of Delhi and many other top universitites and institutes in India also use GATE scores for admission to their PG courses in Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy. The students with bachelor’s degree in architecture, pharmacy, technology and engineering or Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer can apply for the master’s/doctoral degree they are eligible for.

Availability of Application forms for GATE 2010

GATE forms are available by cash payment from designated branches of the specified banks corresponding to the zone a candidate lives in. Forms can also be obtained directly from the zonal GATE offices of IITs and IISB or by sending an application along with a demand draft to the corresponding zonal office requesting for the application form. Candidates also have the option to apply online by filling the details in an online form, taking a print out of the filled form and send it along with a demand draft to the corresponding zonal office.

Important Dates(Tentative):

Date of Entrance test: 2nd week of February, 2010

Availability of application forms and online application: 4th week of September, 2009

Last date of availability of Application forms and online submission: 3rd-4th week of October, 2009

Last date for Receipt of completed Online/Offline Application Form: Last week of October, 2009

Date of the examination: 2nd week of February, 2010

Announcement of results: Mid March 2010
Eligibility criteria:

Candidates with following qualifications are eligible for GATE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/architecture/technology/pharmacy.
  • Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent
  • Qualifications equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AME by ICE(I))

Pattern of Examination:

GATE Entrance test is of 3 hours consisting of objective type questions. Every question has 4 choices. There is negative marking also for a wrong answer. GATE candidates needs to appear in one of the papers available according to the qualification and the degree/branch he/she want to pursue
